Relevant expertise / know-how
• Dynamic GMPLS Control Plane for DWDM Networks
• Network Management Solutions for optical networks
• Network Planning Software
• Wavelength routing facilities through reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs)
• Participation in FP6 project “Phosphorus”

Role in the project
ADVA will contribute to the GEYSER project with the knowledge of an industrial market leader in optical transmission WDM systems. Specifically ADVA will contribute to specification and development of the GMPLS Control Plane and the components of the Path Computation Engine (PCE) architecture. After the specification and integration phase ADVA will support the test-bed integration activities in WP5, as well as tests planning. ADVA will contribute to the GEYSER test-bed DWDM equipment where the developed protocols and SW interfaces will be integrated, tested and demonstrated.

CVs of key persons
Michael Roth is Vice President R&D and as such responsible for the development of Network Management tools, Network Planning tools and Control Plane protocols. As member of the ADVA Management Team, Michael also focuses on research activities in order to evaluate future technology directions. Michael develops with his team the control basis for dynamic, carrier grade, optical transport networks. He was already actively involved in earlier EU funded projects. Michael joined ADVA in 2000 through an acquisition of Cellware Broadband where he was leading development projects for ATM access devices. He received a graduate engineering degree in Information Technology from the Technical University in Dresden, Germany.

Wes Doonan currently serves as Senior Director, Control Plane Development for ADVA Optical Networking NA. Wes leads the ongoing development and delivery of optical control plane technologies at ADVA, enabling use of IP-based protocols and techniques to manage large-scale optical and converged Ethernet networks. Wes is a regular speaker at Internet2 Joint Techs, and has contributed an industry perspective at IEEE HOTInterconnects, NITRD/Jet, Supercomputing, CENIC and ECOC.

Pawel Kaczmarek graduated in Msc degree from Gdansk University of Technology in the field of Telecommunication Technologies and Services. He has been working for ADVA since 2007 as a Software Engineer in the Control Plane R&D department. Before joining ADVA he worked as a Software Engineer at Alcatel-Lucent.

Pawel Brzozowski has been working as a Software Engineer in the Control Plane R&D department since April 2008. Pawel has already experience in participating in EU projects, such as the FP6 IST SPICE and Phosphorus.
