Technische Univeristät Carolo-Wilhelmina zu Braunschweig is the oldest technical university in Germany, funded in 1745, with Carl Friedrich Gauß as one of its first students and lecturers. The Institute of Computer and Communication Network Engineering (IDA) is within the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (EE). It is organized currently in four research groups: embedded systems and design automation group, aerospace electronics, VLSI systems design, and communication networks (www.ida.ing.tu-bs.de). The area of communication networks is one of the strategic focus areas of the ECE department, which ranks in the top three ECE departments in Germany.
